Essential Functions

  • Under administrative direction, serves as the Data Center Supervisor for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) in providing leadership and management oversight to technical staff within the Data Center Network Section and attends meetings with DoIT Divisions as well as other agencies to discuss projects, procedures, and policies. 
  • Serves as a working supervisor:
  • Works with various staff and management of other state agencies to define project goals, planning and coordination efforts between the various teams and operations groups, including designing and defining needed components specified in request documentation.
  • Monitors projects through installation, testing and final production. 
  • Develops, revises, and implements network policies, procedures and standards within the Network Services Division framework, including working with staff to verify policies and directives are communicated and adhered to within all agency LAN environments.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field by continuing education by attending meetings, online training platforms, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on IT products, vendors and techniques and procedures applicable to data center network activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in management information systems, data processing, telecommunications, or a direct Information Technology related field.  
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in management information systems, data processing, or telecommunications in a public or business organization

Specialized Skills

  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience leading, planning, implementing, and assessing Cisco enterprise switching technologies and core network protocols and tools, including Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), network packet analysis, network configuration management, and enterprise DNS and DHCP services.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience supervising a network operations team, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance and training to technical staff, counseling staff on performance, reallocating resources to meet operational needs, establishing goals and objectives, and preparing and completing probationary and annual evaluations.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience working within data center LAN networking environments, including coordinating and monitoring installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of data center switching, routing, and creating LAN procedures, standards, templates, and topology documentation.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience developing written requirements, proposals, comprehensive plans, management reports, and specifications to support complex project planning, multi agency coordination, and the development of components necessary for project requests and bid proposals.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Three (3) years of professional experience working with Cisco enterprise switching technologies and core network protocols and tools, including Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), network packet analysis, network configuration management, and enterprise DNS and DHCP services.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience supervising a network operations team, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance and training to technical staff, counseling staff on performance, reallocating resources to meet operational needs, establishing goals and objectives, and preparing and completing probationary and annual evaluations.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience working within data center LAN networking environments, including coordinating and monitoring installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of data center switching, routing, and creating LAN procedures, standards, templates, and topology documentation.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience developing written requirements, proposals, comprehensive plans, management reports, and specifications to support complex project planning, multi agency coordination, and the development of components necessary for project requests and bid proposals.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience working with network hardware, software, including enterprise data center switching, routing, LAN infrastructure installation and troubleshooting, and adherence to network policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with Cisco data center network switching, including coordinating deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance efforts in enterprise and multi agency data center environments.
  • Ability to analyze datacenter LAN infrastructure requirements, collect and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for network performance and availability, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize network reliability, capacity planning, and incident resolution effectiveness.
  • Ability to develop and review technical language for procurement documents (RFI, RFP, IFB) and collaborate with legal teams to finalize contract agreements for networking, technologies and services.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, managers, executives, users, external stakeholders, foster collaboration in resolving sensitive administrative issues and supporting subordinate team members.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills to present administrative and technical information clearly and precisely to diverse stakeholders, including executives, managers, staff, subordinate staff, and external auditors.
