Position Overview

Join A World Class Institution!! The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) seeks an experienced Library Services is seeking an experienced Library Services professional to serve as Director of Library Services. This senior level position will plan, develop, organize, control, and manage the Library Services Division of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The ideal candidate has a background in Library Science and is highly organized with a good understanding of emerging technologies, library standards, and best practices. Essential Functions

  • Plans, develops, organizes, controls and manages the Library Services programs of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM).
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Establishes policies governing patron use of library materials.
  • Develops and implements strategies and plans to promote the library’s image.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director, COO, State Historian, and other agency directors on collections management protocols including acquisition and deaccessioning, exhibition of Agency collections and artifacts, and policies, procedures, rules and regulations regarding historical materials and artifacts.
  • Supervises and maintains the Library Services divisional budget within the guidelines of the Agency.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, supplemented by a Masters Degree in Library Science.
  • Requires extensive professional library experience, including two (2) years of professional librarian experience involving the application of specialized library science techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers thorough knowledge of professional library principles, methods, materials, and practices, especially that relate to program administration.
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of reader interest levels and wide knowledge of books and authors, of library materials and documents and their value to the library.
  • Prefers the ability to review technical operation reports and to draw conclusions on which to base administrative decisions, and to train and instruct new employees in the methods, techniques, and procedures utilized.
  • Prefers the ability to interpret library policies to facilities and community groups, public officials and the general public, and to establish and maintain favorable public relations.
