Position Overview

The Electronic Equipment Installer/Repairer performs skilled work in preparing new vehicles for installation of public safety emergency equipment for the Division of 911-Radio Network Services. The position performs installations, removals, and repair of video, emergency lighting, and other equipment commonly associated with public safety vehicles. They are also responsible for troubleshooting of radio and radar equipment. The ideal candidate is able to lift up to 75 pounds without assistance, and has experience in the repair of electronic, television, and radio equipment. Essential Functions

  • Installs and removes 2-way mobile radio equipment, antenna systems, public address/siren systems, video systems, emergency lighting systems, and RF modems.
  • Utilizes various hand and power tools such as electric air drills, wrenches, and soldering tools; Reads circuit schematics and wiring diagrams; Fabricates and wires special control and electronic equipment according to instruction.
  • Constructs and prepares equipment for installation in new vehicles such as radio saddles and switchboxes; lifts and moves heavy communications and associated equipment weighing up to 75 pounds into and out of vehicles.
  • Maintains written shop and job records and forms.
  • Packs, loads, and transports equipment and materials to assist in the installation and maintenance of base stations’ microwave and control equipment at field sites statement, utilizing a state vehicle.
  • Under the immediate supervision of an FCC licensed technician, maintains radio transmitting and receiving equipment.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school or technical school.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience in the maintenance, adjustment, and repair of radio or electronic equipment.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience in reading circuit schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience using electronic testing equipment, hand and electric power tools, and soldering.
