POSITION SUMMARY

The Central Management Services (CMS) Bureau of Benefits is seeking to hire an Employee Benefits Representative for its Group Insurance Division, Benefits and Claims Support Unit. We are looking to hire something with strong research skills and an eye for detail. If you have experience with customer service, life or health insurance, and investigating and resolving insurance related inquiries, this could be the job for you.  Strong organizational skills, analytical abilities and working with people add to the skills that will help you succeed in this role.  This job offers the opportunity to support and educate various state agency liaisons on employee benefit programs and procedures, and other CMS administered programs within the Group Insurance Division.  We invite all interested persons to apply!

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under general supervision, independently performs a variety of working-level technical and specialized duties for various State programs for the Local Government Health Plan (LGHP), the Teacher’s Retirement Insurance Program (TRIP), the College Insurance Program (CIP) and the State Employees’ Group Health, Retiree Healthcare and Life Insurance Programs, specifically within the Benefits and Claims Support Unit (BCS), in the Group Insurance Division.
  • Provides detailed instruction, information, advice and assistance via telephone and written correspondence to retirement systems Group Insurance Representatives (GIR’s), Health Plan representatives, members, dependents, group insurance carriers, legislators, providers and others regarding claims and benefits to help facilitate prompt responses and resolutions.
  • Develops information for revisions of manuals and handbooks relating to all aspects of Group Insurance Division including legislation, rules, regulations and departmental opinions and positions.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to less experienced staff with various duties in the field of employment benefits and insurance programs, specifically in the specialized area of the Benefits and Claims Support Unit (BCS) in the Group Insurance Division.
  • Coordinates with other units within Membership Services to perform equal or lower-level related work which includes backlogs and phone coverage as it relates to Membership services provided to members by the Group Insurance Division.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college.
  • Requires three years of work experience in insurance administration, benefits administration, or human resources.

PREFERRED QUALIFCATIONS

  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience with employee benefit programs in matters pertaining to benefits, claims, and coverage guidelines.
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience with group insurance membership and online enrollment systems.
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience analyzing benefit claims and/or resolving account discrepancies.
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience in a call center environment with a high volume of calls.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience with drafting correspondence and reports for customers and management.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience researching customer issues and providing appropriate resolutions and responses.
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience working with computer hardware and software applications and office technology to provide assigned technical support services including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
