ICC Overview
The ICC is made up of 2 main segments. The Bureau of Public Utilities and The Bureau of Transportation.
Public Utility Services
Through its Bureau of Public Utilities, the Commission oversees the provision of adequate, reliable, efficient and safe utility services at the least possible cost to Illinois citizens served by electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water and sewer public utility companies.
Transportation Services
Through its Bureau of Transportation, the Commission oversees public safety and consumer protection programs with regard to intrastate commercial motor carriers of general freight, household goods movers, relocation towers, safety towers, personal property warehouses and repossession agencies. The Commission’s Rail Safety Program also inspects and regulates the general safety of railroad tracks, facilities and equipment in the state.
Job Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Engineering, Electric Engineer II will monitor, review and analyze electric utility system planning and operations and provides expert advice to the Commission on those issues, requiring use of scanners, personal computers and corresponding printers, using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook software programs. Independently evaluates multiple assignments and workload in order to properly prioritize activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in electric engineering, prefer at least three years of regulatory experience or relevant electric utility experience, prefers advanced degree. This position requires a person with sufficient maturity and professionalism to deal with highly confidential, sensitive, or controversial information and documents; thorough knowledge of manual and automated office equipment; extensive knowledge of English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; extensive knowledge of personal computers, Windows programs and the ability to apply human relations skills in interaction with management, other ICC staff, and the public.
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements include adequate mobility and stamina to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time during site inspections; ability to bend or stoop repeatedly, ability to lift, carry, and operate light equipment (less than 20 pounds) for extended periods of time and while mobile; visual acuity sufficient to review records, perform visual inspections, and distinguish colors; and speech and hearing adequate to communicate detailed information in environments with significant amounts of background noise. Additionally, requires ability to perform assigned duties while subjected to various weather and environmental conditions. Travel of 20 to 25 percent anticipated.
Education Degree
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in electric engineering, prefer at least three years of regulatory experience or relevant electric utility experience, prefers advanced degree.
