Position Overview
This position is accountable for performing professional electrical engineering duties involving scopes of work concerning the planning, designing, and reviewing of all project phases under the jurisdiction of the Capital Development Board (CDB). Under general direction, the incumbent is accountable for providing professional and technical electrical expertise and services in all phases of project development, analyzing Architect/Engineer (A/E) qualifications, reviewing plans and specifications prepared by A/Es, designing in-house projects and conducting research. The incumbent helps to ensure compliance with procedures and policies related to construction codes, legal aspects, and budget requirements.
Essential Function
- Reviews construction documents for general code compliance, technical sufficiency and to ensure conformance with applicable design requirements.
- Conducts field surveys and prepares budget survey documents.
- Prepares complete electrical working drawings, including details and explanatory notes for new buildings and renovation of existing ones.
- Works with A/Es, contractors, and user agencies to resolve project problems and serves as a resource to construction administration management and legal.
- Assists with evaluation, prescreening and selecting A/Es.
- Keeps abreast with latest engineering developments to make recommendations to the Administrator of the Professional Services Division regarding construction, maintenance, and budgets.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college.
- Requires five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in electrical engineering and extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical engineering, building construction and renovation practices, building materials, trade capabilities and construction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering.
- Illinois certification as a licensed professional engineer.
- Ability to interpret drawings and specifications.
- Ability to understand and interpret relevant codes and research new technologies.
- Ability to assist in existing building assessments and program analyses including but not limited to feasibility studies and preliminary drawings.
- Working knowledge of MS Office products, AutoCAD, and Adobe Pro.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.
