Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire an Accountant Advanced. The successful candidate performs thorough audits of project and applicable Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) bureau files to determine accuracy, eligibility, and distribution of charges for proper federal claim.
Essential Functions
- Performs thorough audit of project and applicable bureau files to determine accuracy, eligibility, and distribution of charges for proper federal claim.
- Initiates and prepares final vouchers on a project basis for certification of reimbursement claims to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
- Initiates accounting adjustment entries for the FPM System records as dictated by project research and documentation.
- Initiates Modified Project Agreements (MPA), if required, for project cost overruns.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope ofthose enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting.
- Requires two years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers knowledge of federal funding, federal status, and project program requirements.
- Prefers knowledge of auditing theories and methods.
- Prefers analytical skill with ability to evaluate difficult accounting problems.
- Prefers knowledge and experience in interpreting complex accounting records.
- Prefers ability to review detailed work including written and/or numerical data.
- Prefers ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships and to deal thoughtfully with controversial problems.
