Essential Functions

  • Serves as a full line supervisor for the Field Operations Section.
  • Facilitates Agency Collaboration for Disaster Preparedness and Response.
  • Supervises Disaster Response Operations and Planning.
  • Implements policies, procedures, and objectives for the Field Operations Section and determines the means by which the Section achieves its policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in business administration, public administration, or emergency management.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible emergency management experience in a public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a public or business organization.
  • Two (2) years of experience working at a municipal, county, or state agency (or similar entity) with an emergency management focus.
  • Individual Professional Emergency Management (IPEM) certification.
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Basic Academy certification.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires a criminal history check through the Illinois State Police.
  • Requires ability to use state-supplied equipment, such as cell phone, laptop, etc.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires ability to serve in an on-call capacity and to activate and direct staff during disaster response situations.
