Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform highly skilled materials production duties in the Communications Office. Produces materials not available commercially that are needed as an integral part of Public Health public awareness publications.

Job Responsibilities

1. Produces materials not available commercially that are needed as integral part of Public Health public awareness publications.

  • Develops and designs high-quality visual content, including but not limited to brochures, infographics, web banners, social media assets, reports, charts, maps, and presentations.
  • Collaborates with the communications team to conceptualize and execute visual campaigns that align with IDPH’s public health initiatives and goals.
  • Ensures all designs adhere to IDPH’s brand guidelines and maintain a consistent visual identity across all platforms.
  • Works closely with the IDPH program teams to understand and visualize complex data and information in an engaging and accessible manner.
  • Makes cost and time estimates for projects.
  • Confers with supervisor in planning and establishing priorities.

 

2.  Utilizes Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects) or equivalent preferred software to develop and produce designs.

  • Stays current with industry trends and best practices in graphic design and public health communications.
  • Manages multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.

 

3.  Collaborates with information technology, medical services, programmatic office and recruitment and training staff on design layouts, needs and availability of materials.

  • Designs promotional campaigns, multi-projector slide shows, visuals and 3-dimensional displays for training and recruitment purposes.
  • Designs visual assets for information technology application, including intranet and internet.
  • Assists medical services and programmatic staff in the planning and execution of public health awareness campaigns and events.
  • Provides design support for other departmental needs as required.

4.  Maintains a complete cross-reference log ad filing system for all work.

  • Prepares monthly and statistical reports.

 

5.  Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four years college with a concentration in art, computer art, graphic design or related subject.
  2. Requires one year experience in art/design production or graphics in both printed and electronic media.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. One year experience creating artwork, layouts, illustrations or other pictorial materials.
  2. One year experience making cost and time estimates for projects.
  3. One year experience utilizing Adobe Creative Suite or related software to produce creative designs.
  4. One year experience designing promotional campaigns, multi-projector slide shows, visuals or 3-dimensional displays for training and recruitment purposes.
  5. One year experience preparing clear and visually appealing monthly and statistical reports.
  6. One year experience maintaining a complete filing system.
