This position is responsible for monitoring the grounds and property, enforcing security regulations and checking employees and visitors for proper access. Essential Functions
- Under general supervision, provides services for safeguarding Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) employees and property at assigned work sites on alternating shifts.
- Monitors the main security desk, along with all employee and visitor entrances and parking lots.
- Prepares and submits daily reports of activities, e.g., Visitor Log, Employee Log, Radio Log, Badge Log, Special Incident Report, etc., developed during the shift.
- Monitors the fire and security systems of the building.
- Enforces vehicle, parking and traffic regulations in the ramp and parking areas of the Willard Ice Building (WIB).
- Participates in advanced security and emergency medical training including first aid, CPR, fire and safety control and response protocols for security breaches to enhance skills, abilities and knowledge.
- Accepts assignment to a different shift schedule, on a temporary basis, to cover employee's absence and/or during emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
- Requires completion of six months of safety and security experience as a watch attendant, security guard or related position.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience working with emergency response, procedures and techniques, including first aid, CPR, fire safety and control, and response protocols for security breaches.
- One (1) year experience utilizing a personal computer to access employee data.
- One (1) year of experience communicating security regulations, general information and direct and control of the public with firmness, tact, and courtesy practices and techniques.
- One (1) year of experience interpreting and utilizing safety procedures and work instructions.
- One (1) year of experience organizing observed facts for written reports.
- One (1) year experience recognizing security breaches and safety hazards and providing initial response to same.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
- Requires the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk both within the building and outside in all weather conditions, climb and descend stairs, assist persons with disabilities and react quickly to emergency situations, e.g., chasing an offender, carrying medical bag or pushing wheelchair to an accident.
- Requires the ability to take and pass courses in administering first aid and CPR.
- Requires ability to occasionally, on a temporary basis, work a different shift schedule.
