Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to oversee the Southern Unit Field inspection program for non-long term care providers (Hospitals, Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Centers (ASTC), End Stage Renal Dialysis (ESRD) Facilities, Home Health Agencies, Hospices, Rural Health Centers, Outpatient Physical Therapy Centers, Community Mental Health Centers, etc. in order to ensure federal and state regulations are met. This individual would serve as a working supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Organizes, evaluates, formulates and executes the field inspection program for the Southern Unit non-long term care providers (Hospitals, Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Centers (ASTC), End Stage Renal Dialysis (ESRD) Facilities, Home Health Agencies, Hospices, Rural Health Centers, Outpatient Physical Therapy Centers, Community Mental Health Centers, etc.)  in order to ensure uniformity in the operation of the program and compliance with current State and Federal survey procedures.
  2. Serves as working supervisor.
  3. Travels to conduct certification and licensure surveys, complaint investigations and follow-up surveys.
  4. Participates in the development of technical policy positions, including initiating and preparing information and interpretive releases concerning rules and regulations as they relate to the Section’s activities.
  5. Prepares activity reports, budgetary materials, staffing and equipment needs.
  6. Performs other duties as required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college preferably with courses in nursing.  
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in nursing.
  • Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of professional procedures and practices related to health care and ability to interact with other health care professionals, as well as the public.
  • Extensive knowledge of agency programs and service objectives, activities and operational systems.
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Two years experience in Microsoft Products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, etc.

Condition of Employment

  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires possession of a valid drivers license.
