Position Overview
Under general supervision, functions as a professional investigator conducting sensitive and/or controversial, overt and covert investigations/inspections of health services registrants including, but not necessarily limited to, Dental, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, nurse midwife, nurse anesthetist, dietician, nutrition counselor, marriage and family counselor, professional counselor, podiatrist, environmental health practitioner, veterinarians, etc. Reviews and analyzes complaints received; interviews complainants, accused practitioners and witnesses to corroborate information regarding alleged violations. Works cooperatively with other investigators and local, state and federal law enforcement officials on criminal cases. Travels to facilities to collect evidentiary materials and attend meetings.

Essential Functions
- Travels to conduct sensitive and/or controversial, overt and covert investigations/inspections of health services practitioners including, but not necessarily limited to, Dental, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, nurse midwife, nurse anesthetist, dietician, nutrition counselor, marriage and family counselor, professional counselor, podiatrist, environmental health practitioner, veterinarians, etc.
- Reviews and analyzes complaints received.
- Works cooperatively with other investigators and local, state, and federal law enforcement officials on criminal cases as directed by superior.
- Drafts responses to special correspondence and/or inquiries for superior.
- Coordinates and compiles data, documentation, and evidence files for assigned cases.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires bachelor’s degree, preferably with coursework in law, government and health related fields.
- Requires a minimum of two years of responsible investigatory experience in law enforcement or a related field, or one year of advanced medical or dental education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least five years of experience working as a law enforcement officer
- Prefers at least five years of experience conducting investigations.
- Prefers at least three years of experience working in a health-related field such as medical, dental, veterinarian, counseling, social worker, EMT or similar.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to pass an agency conducted background check.
- Requires the possession of a valid, appropriate drivers license and the ability to travel.
