Position Overview
Under general direction, performs highly responsible assignments relating to payroll for assigned areas of the Department of Human Services (DHS). Prepares payroll transactions; interprets, verifies and adjusts the on-line payroll system; maintains and stores payroll files. Assists and organizes with preparing semi-monthly payrolls and/or supplemental payrolls. Interprets and complies with all standard methods, policies, rules and procedures pertaining to various state payroll programs. Prepares various payroll related correspondence. Assists in maintaining comprehensive databases to prepare payroll related reports.
Essential Functions
- Prepares payroll transactions including calculations of temporary assignment pay, military pay, back wage claims, gross pay adjustments, salary adjustments, premium pay, separation payments, involuntary deductions, voluntary deductions, salary reversal, deduction adjustments; transmits supplemental payroll cycle, payroll posting, payroll vendor payments, payment of overtime, dock time computations, garnishments, child support, tax exemptions, deduction cards, direct deposits, etc.
- Assists and organizes with preparing semi-monthly payrolls and/or supplemental payrolls; inputs changes into personnel payroll system; maintains all related records and audit documents.
- Interprets and complies with all standard methods, policies, rules and procedures pertaining to various state payroll programs such as deferred compensation, retirement, Comptroller’s Office, etc.
- Prepares various payroll related correspondence, letters, memorandums, reports, etc., for supervisors, managers, employees, and Directors and/or Secretary.
- Assists in maintaining comprehensive databases to prepare payroll related reports; maintains detailed salary histories.
- Attends meetings, seminars, or workshops to receive instruction, information and updates on procedures, requirements, etc., pertaining to state payroll programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment, systems and software and perform routine maintenance.
