Position Overview
As the Employee benefits coordinator for the Human Resources Division under the Office of the Director, Provides individual employees information on types of insurance coverage available through the State of Illinois plans and approved health maintenance organizations. Maintains all insurance records including beneficiary designations and processes death claims. Provides information and coordinates enrollment and changes for all new hires. Provides guidance on Annual Benefits Choice election period, qualifying event changes to existing coverage, and semi-annual recertification process. Processes all State Retirement System (SRS) forms, prepares and emails/mails retirement information packets to employees. Performs research, conducts studies to complete specialized reports as requested, creates spreadsheets and tracks retirement information as requested by management. Investigates facts from employees and insurance carriers to resolve denied/problem claims. Coordinates the Flexible spending accounts and transportation Benefit Program.

Essential Functions
- As Employee benefits Coordinator, responsible for enrollment of all Illinois State Police (ISP) employees in the State of Illinois Health, Life, Vision, and Dental Insurance.
- Serves backup to the ISP Retirement/Disability Coordinator.
- Provides Professional assistance related to Retirement and Deferred Compensation Programs.
- Provides employees with optimum service on unusual claim issues/problems; gathers and reviews data.
- Serves as a liaison with Central Management Services (CMS) concerning problems with participant enrollment, benefits, etc.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college.
- Requires one year of professional experience, preferably in human resources, or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers two years working knowledge of state government.
- Prefers two years working knowledge of the Personnel Code, Rules, Position Classification Plan, Pay Plan, Collective Bargaining Contracts, departmental policies, and procedures.
- Prefers experience in articulating human resources administration information in descriptive terms to others not versed in the personnel system.
- Prefers two years experience with Group Insurance Programs.
- Prefers two years experience in using computer systems, software, templates, or other guides.
- Prefers one year experience developing and maintaining successful and professional working relationships with a wide variety of staff.
