The Illinois Department of Agriculture is seeking individuals, for temporary employment not to exceed 6 months, for the Illinois State Fair summer season. Essential Functions

Under immediate supervision, and on a temporary basis for a period not to exceed 6 months, performs a variety of unskilled manual labor and/or simple clerical duties
 

  • Assists customers with the purchasing of Illinois State Fair entertainment event tickets taking place at the Illinois State Fair Grandstand, Multipurpose Arena, etc., during the fair.
  • Assists with the handling of customer service inquiries regarding the Illinois State Fair Grandstand, Multipurpose Arena, or other ticketed entertainment events during the Illinois State Fair
  • Scans ticket of customers attending concerts or other fair ticketed entertainment events during the fair.
  • Performs a variety of office/clerical duties.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight years of elementary school.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers experience working with the public and assisting with general inquiries.
  • Prefers experience with cash handling.
  • Prefers experience with basic office equipment and computer programs.
  • Prefers Elementary knowledge of basic math and alphabetizing.
  • Prefers experience with maintaining satisfactory working relationships with management, other employees, and members of the public.
  • Prefers experience with understanding and following written and oral instructions.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be able to work all 11 days of the Illinois State Fair, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to work for up to 10 hours a day or more, possibly outdoors.
  • This position may require the ability to complete a good deal of walking, standing, and sitting for the entire shift.
  • This position involves working in a fast-paced, customer-oriented area.
  • This position may require a valid driver’s license.

We are looking to fill positions in the area outlined below: 

  • Ticket Sales  Will provide service to fair goers for each event held in the grandstand during the Illinois State Fair, process ticket orders and sell grandstand event tickets  
  • Ticket Taker  Scanning tickets and guiding event goers to their seats

 

Applications will be scored and ranked from highest to lowest score.  Applicants will be offered employment in score order. Applicants scoring 1 or less will only be contacted if necessary to fill any vacant positions.
