Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire an Infection Prevention/Control Nurse. This position conducts complex random and targeted infection control related surveys to monitor hospitals compliance with Federal, State and Accreditation guidelines; reviews qualitative/quantitative infection control data, providing follow-up for problem areas identified; supports the Statewide Quality Control Nurse; assists in conducting surveys and reviewing policies and procedures to monitor conformance to Federal, State and Accreditation guidelines in such areas as patient safety, nursing, and treatment; and provides consultation and expertise to hospital staff, Department of Human Services (DHS) leadership and other stakeholders regarding such areas as infection control, psychiatric and medical services, nursing requirements and treatment services.
Essential Functions
- Serves as an Infection Prevention/Control Nurse.
- Supports the Statewide Quality Control Nurse.
- Serves as a consultant/expert advisor to DBHR/SOPH staff, DHS leadership and other stakeholders regarding such areas as infection control, psychiatric and medical services, nursing requirements, best practice, and treatment services.
- Identifies areas in need of being reviewed or in need of having data collected.
- Works with quality and training staff to identify training and monitor needs in areas such as assessment and treatment, treatment outcomes and the environment of care.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required that are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or a diploma degree in nursing and three years of professional nursing experience OR (b) a bachelor's degree in nursing and two years of professional nursing experience OR (c) a master's degree in nursing.
- Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to travel statewide in the performance of job duties.
- Requires the ability to obtain the Certification of Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) within two years of employment.
- Requires the ability to utilize personal computers, office equipment and computer skills, including the use of software applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Abode.
- Requires the ability to use electronic medical records for surveillance and compliance purposes.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
