We invite qualified applicants to apply for the position of Information Services Specialist I in the Information Technology Division at State Retirement Systems (SRS). This position provides user support for the Agency while focusing on customer service. It provides support by answering customer questions and troubleshooting technical issues involving varying types of hardware and software. Installing and maintaining workstations and other utilities and protocols to complete the business functions at SRS. This position is an entry level position into the Information Technology field and will give the candidate the opportunity to learn and progress in the field of technology. The ideal candidate for this position can prioritize tasks and should be organized. They should also have excellent communication skills and be self-motivated. SRS is conveniently located on the west side of Springfield with free parking on-site.

Essential Functions
- Performs first level help desk functions, including answering help line calls, performing first level problem diagnostics, problem escalations, and problem tracking and reporting for all IT applications and system support functions for internal and external customers.
- Answers questions from Agency staff; assists in the review and evaluation of new hardware and software technology; assists with the assessment and review of user requests for new PC software; assists with the gathering of user requirements, testing, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of PC/Laptop/Printer/Scanning systems.
- Assists users by providing support with software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite, Windows 10/11, Adobe products, and SRS developed systems.
- Establishes and maintains basic configurations ensuring compliance with Agency security considerations, performance requirements, and established standards.
- Performs the process of duplicating new OS installations for efficient on-site installations of desktop/laptops. Performs on-site installations of desktop/laptops; assists with device installations and software maintenance. Maintains desktop/laptop operating system by applying updates and fixes. Provides support for complex computer functions including configuration, installation, and support of network devices including printers, scanners and computers.
- Attends training courses as needed or as assigned and approved by management.
- Performs other duties as required or as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Specialized Skills
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience providing help desk support to technology users.
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience supporting Windows desktop/laptop operating systems and desktop software such as Microsoft Office products.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college with course work in computer science or directly related field; or satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program.
- Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.

Employment Conditions
- Requires the ability to work with small objects such as small screws, memory chips, cable connections, etc.
- Requires the ability to work outside of normal hours to meet deadlines.
- Requires the ability to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, short notice, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Requires the ability to lift and carry objects or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. This is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
