Job Responsibilities

Under immediate supervision, serves as a Configuration Toolset Administrator, assisting in providing professional application support of a limited scope in the configuration, customization, and administration of the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB). Works with and assists IT staff to configure the Service Mapping tool and load data / dependencies identified by Service Mapping into the CMDB. Assists the IT staff in the integration/ field mapping and reconciliation of data from ServiceNow discovery, Service Mapping, SCCM, SolarWinds, and ad hoc loads in the configuration management module. Assists in establishing and documenting service data models and with implementation (i.e., workflow development) and performance metric development and tracking of progress. Assists with audits of CMDB data to ensure data is accurate. Assists in providing interpretation/guidance of asset management, configuration management, and change management processes to IT staff. Keeps abreast of innovation and advancements on the ServiceNow Platform and the IT field. Travels in performance of duties.

  • Assists in providing professional application support of a limited scope in the configuration, customization, and administration of the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB). Implements configuration changes to ServiceNow base forms and lists. Provides input for defining and managing the structure of the configuration management system. Assists with maintaining records and configuration items (Cl) in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and assists with developing and scheduling reports to the Reporting Console.
  • Works with and assists IT staff to configure the Service Mapping tool and load data/dependencies identified by Service Mapping into the CMDB. Assists the IT staff in the integration/field mapping and reconciliation of data from ServiceNow discovery, Service Mapping, SCCM, SolarWinds, and ad hoc loads in the configuration management module.
  • Assists in establishing and documenting service data models and with implementation (i.e., workflow development) and performance metric development and tracking of progress. Assists with audits of CMDB data to ensure data is accurate. Assists IT staff with maintaining CMDB data which is not discoverable by automated tools.
  • Assists in providing interpretation/guidance of asset management, configuration management, and change management processes to IT staff. Performs change reconciliations for data in the CMDB and assists with tasks related to implementing the ServiceNow application in the IT environment.
  • Keeps abreast of innovation and advancements on the ServiceNow Platform and the IT field. Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on the ServiceNow Platform, IT products, vendors, techniques, and procedures applicable to unit activities. Travels to attend meetings, trainings, and conference.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Requirements

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields; or satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program. Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs. Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to travel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Requires elementary knowledge of Information Technology concepts, principles, theories and functions of computer systems, and the principles and techniques of information technology documentation.
• Requires the ability to analyze data logically.
• Requires ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with others.
• Requires working knowledge of oral and written communications skills. Requires the ability to document, interpret and implement user requests for system changes. Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to travel. Requires the ability to utilize agency supplied materials/equipment.

 

Prefers

• Knowledge/familiarity with methodologies, tools, approaches, points of view and thought leadership to support the Configuration Management practice.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Visio, and Project.

Specialized Skills

Requires knowledge of the following:

• Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes including Asset Management, Service Catalog, Incident, Problem, Change Management
• Asset, change, and configuration management processes
• Configuring and administering a ServiceNow Configuration Management Database
• ServiceNow discovery, configuration items, and change management
• A diverse range of IT concepts, e.g. infrastructure, network, software, and hardware; data privacy regulations

 

This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
