Job Responsibilities

Under immediate supervision, assists in performing professional services within the Quality Assurance Unit; Performs limited assignments for monitoring and recommend changes to required documentation of software development throughout the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Assists with establishing standards and Department polices to comply with State of Illinois (SOI) auditing standards, NIST, FISMA, and ITIL which complement and reflect CISSP best practices. Assists with research of repetitious issues using data analytics and analysis of failure points to discover patterns and determine potential root cause issues and recommends corrective action plan to management to mitigate and or resolve the issues. Assists with helpdesk tickets assigned to members within the unit as appropriate. Travels to attend meetings, training and conferences.

 

Performs limited assignments and gains knowledge by assisting in performing professional services within the Quality Assurance Unit. Performs limited assignments monitoring changes to required documentation of software development throughout the System Development Life Cycle SDLC. Assists and gains knowledge and familiarity in establishing standards and Department polices to comply with SOI auditing standards, NIST, FISMA, and ITIL which complement and reflect CISSP best practices. Learns and gains knowledge of production release methods that ensure compliance with department policies while following industry standards and best practices. Performs limited assignments assisting with reports and compliance statistics, gaining knowledge in validating quality assurance effectiveness. Under close supervision, performs compliance reviews for assigned areas, learning how to compare and report findings. Assists with internal/external audit events when directed or as necessary. Attends meetings as necessary or directed.

  • Prepares weekly status reports utilizing tools such as MS Excel, MS Word, and Visio. Participates in reviewing and evaluating the progress of projects.  
  • Provides limited assignments providing quality assurance services for systems supported by the division, assisting higher level staff with broader assignments. Assists with preparing user and operational guidelines, operational manuals and system documentation. Assists with necessary system analysis and assists in the preparation of project and system documents to authenticate current system operations and planned and necessary application changes needed. Gains knowledge in order to make solution recommendations.
  • Assists with research of repetitious issues using data analytics and analysis of failure points to learn and discover patterns and identify potential root cause issues. Assists with helpdesk tickets assigned to members within the unit as appropriate.
  • Attends formal training sessions to keep abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field; continues education by attending meetings, seminars and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on IT products, systems and vendors to understand the latest technologies; travels when held offsite.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields; or satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program. Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs. Requires elementary knowledge of Information Technology concepts and principles, the theories and functions of computer systems, and the principles and techniques of Information Technology documentation. Requires elementary knowledge of hardware and software, languages, and procedures to provide assigned technical and analytical support services. Requires working knowledge of oral and written communication skills. Requires ability to effectively participate in and profit from formal and in-service training programs. Requires ability to analyze data logically. Requires ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with others. Prefers one-year of experience in Quality Assurance with IT Services. Prefers general knowledge of SDLC, NIST, FISMA CISSP and ITIL principles. Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel. Requires the ability to utilize agency supplied material/equipment (e.g., cellphone, laptop, etc.).

 

Preferred: Knowledge of the following: relational database management tools, reporting tools, MS Office Suite, and MS Visio.
