Job Responsibilities

Under immediate supervision, performs limited assignments for providing application services for systems supported by the division. Assists with helping to transform business information into actionable reports and visualizations. Assists with formulating business requirements for BI tools specifically tailored to client agency requests. Assists higher-level developers and other Extraction, Transformation and Loading Tools (ETL) team members with making strategic decisions on managing the deployment process. Assists higher-level professionals with developing, deploying and maintaining BI Interfaces including query tools such as data visualization and interactive dashboards, ad hoc reporting and data modeling tools. Documents contents & data structure in a data warehouse and meta-data storage to help make decisions about the required reporting options. Travels to attend meetings, training and conferences.

 

Performs limited assignments for providing application services for systems supported by the division. Assists with helping to transform business information into actionable reports and visualizations. Assists with preparing user and operational guidelines, operational manuals and application or system documentation. Performs necessary system analysis and assists in the preparation of project and system documents to authenticate current system operations and planned and necessary application changes needed. Learns and uses the agency’s adopted system design methodology to ensure the integrity of each system/sub-system meets the required standards of security, efficiency, and scope of the specific project. Gains knowledge and utilizes relational database management tools, SQL, SQL Server Reporting tools, SharePoint, MS Power BI, Power Apps, SharePoint, MS Office Suite, and general knowledge of ETL in the performance of duties.

  • Assists with formulating business requirements for BI tools specifically tailored to client agency requests. Translates business requirements into technical requirements to determine specific interface type is best suited for users such as interactive dashboards, drag & drop interface or fill-in fields. Assists higher-level developers and other ETL team members with making strategic decisions on managing the deployment process.
  • Assists higher-level professionals with developing, deploying and maintaining BI Interfaces including query tools such as data visualization and interactive dashboards, ad hoc reporting and data modeling tools. Reports curation and data modeling into visual form (graphs, charts and textual summaries) to allow users to make queries to the database using BI interface. Participates in architectural design of the data warehouse regarding building unified storage for government information.
  • Documents contents & data structure in a data warehouse and meta-data storage to help make decisions about the required reporting options. Creates technical documentation for BI interface by providing guidance over the scope of usage for usual users and technical staff.
  • Creates weekly status reports utilizing tools such as MS Excel, MS Word, and Visio. Reviews and evaluates the progress of projects.
  • Attends formal training sessions to keep abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field; continues education by attending meetings, seminars and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on IT products, systems and vendors to understand the latest technologies; travels when held offsite.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields; or satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program. Requires elementary knowledge of Information Technology concepts and principles, the theories and functions of computer systems, and the principles and techniques of Information Technology documentation. Requires elementary knowledge of hardware and software, languages, and procedures to provide assigned technical and analytical support services. Requires working knowledge of oral and written communication skills. Requires ability to effectively participate in and profit from formal and in-service training programs.  Requires ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with others. Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel. Requires the ability to utilize agency supplied material/equipment (e.g., cellphone, laptop, etc.). Prefers professional experience in the following: relational database management tools, SQL, SQL Server Reporting tools, SharePoint, MS Power BI, Power Apps, SharePoint, MS Office Suite, and general knowledge of ETL.

 

Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.
