Job Responsibilities
Under administrative direction, performs professional and technical functions for Local Area Network (LAN) Services, supporting multiple state-wide locations. Performs hardware and software setups and installations. Meets with users to determine layout and specifications to design, develop and modify network communications, including various LAN components and assumes accountability of all associated work products. Confers with customers in high stress situations to troubleshoot network systems, end-user communication problems, and network hardware and software failures; serves on-call in emergency situations. Lifts, loads and unloads equipment weighing up to 30 pounds, and delivers to various locations for setup and installation; travels to attend meetings, training sessions, seminars to continue education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four years of college with course work in computer networking, information technology, computer engineering, computer science, or directly related fields. Requires one year of professional experience in a related Information Technology field. Requires developed oral and written communications skills. Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel, serve on-call and lift up to 30 pounds. Working knowledge and professional experience with Cisco switching hardware and software is preferred.
Specialized Skills: Requires experience as outlined above in the following: Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, Quality of Service, VLAN design, DNS/DHCP, Network Security, Network Diagnostic and Management Tool Integration (Traffic analyzers) Sniffers), Wireless LAN configuration and troubleshooting; and LAN design and capacity planning. Requires extensive knowledge in computer network hardware and software installation and troubleshooting. Requires working knowledge of project planning and project management and multitasking abilities. Requires analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex network problems independently.
Requires the ability to successfully complete a nationwide background check, which includes fingerprints and photograph, as defined by the Internal Revenue Service Pub 1075.
Work Hours: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday
