Job Responsibilities
Under general direction, performs difficult and specialized professional and advisory functions in the Midrange Wintel/ Application Hosting Unit for non-routine work applying and/or adapting new methods to meet changing or new situations; researches, plans, installs, implements, configures, tests, documents, maintains, communicates, and coordinates in relationship to hardware, software and operating systems of specified platforms, lifting equipment weighing up to 65 pounds; performs problem diagnostic of hardware, software and operating system problems and responds to calls for emergency issues; develops interface functions between software and servers; participates on project teams including coordinating the work of other Information Technology professionals.

- Performs installation, systems configurations, testing and implementation of software, hardware, and operating systems in accordance with agency requirements and Information Technology policy, lifting equipment weighing up to 65 pounds; reviews and evaluates customer requests; develops solutions to satisfy customer needs and to ensure requests meet standards and procedures and recommends hardware and software products for applications.
- Provides technical assistance to clients and technicians pertaining to hardware, software and operating systems. Conducts reviews of hardware, software, components and processes making written recommendations for modifications to provide availability, flexibility, and usability for the clients; reviews, creates or modifies current configurations, tables and programs.
- Performs problem diagnostic of hardware, software and operating system problems. Evaluates and resolves problems when notified by recognized processes, clients or technicians. Resolves basic hardware and software problems; performs in the diagnosis and resolution of system software problems referring the more complex problems to higher level staff; confers with vendors to resolve software and hardware problems.
- Participates on projects as a team member and serves as project coordinator for standard projects including small/medium size hardware/software installations and deployments. Determines and coordinates project components such as project scheduling and assignments; assigns and reviews the work of project analyst staff; provides expertise, guidance and direction to staff; reviews results and incorporates individual components of project into the final products.
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field; maintain continuing education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on information technology products, vendors, techniques and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years college, with course work in Computer Science, or related field supplemented by one year professional experience in a related Information Technology field. Requires working knowledge of the methods, procedures and techniques of conducting feasibility studies for system conversions and enhancements. Requires ability to coordinate the activities of work associates to achieve desired results. Requires ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgment in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature. Requires developed oral and written communications skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision. Requires ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others. Requires ability to effectively pa1ticipate in and profit from continuing education, both in a formal and in-service training setting. Prefers working knowledge of Systems Management Server (SMS) and/or Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and SQL Server and VMware. Prefer working knowledge of Microsoft desk top packages. Prefers knowledge and understanding of technical concepts including Risk Management, Web Applications, Workflow, Data Management, LAN and Network Services and network communication concepts and principles, including knowledge of server/client network configurations, routers, routing protocols, switches, firewalls, VPN and Internet. Prefers knowledge of Novell server platform and software packages. Requires the ability to lift up to 65 pounds. Requires the ability to utilize agency supplied materials/equipment (i.e., cell-phone, pager, blackberry, etc.). Requires ability to respond to calls after hours
Specialized Skills: Requires one year experience as outlined above with the following: coordinating, planning, completing multiple priorities, administrating Microsoft Wintlows·2003, 2008 and/or 20I2, Active Directory environment, Microsoft file· structure including security groups and permissions, Distributed File Shares, Citrix, Internet Information Services (IIS), IBM Datacap, and SharePoint.
Requires the ability to successfully complete a nationwide background check, which includes fingerprints and photograph, as defined by the Internal Revenue Service Pub 1075.
