About this position

 

THIS IS A DoIT DESIGNATED POSITION

 

Under administrative direction, serves as a senior network server administrator; performs advanced technical server and workstation administration functions including design. installation, configuration, patch management, operating system updates and server backups. Designs, installs and implements complex server engineering relating to the Microsoft Active Directory and the server infrastructure. Designs, installs, implements and manages the Microsoft SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager) server, inventory collection and monitoring of key system resources. Designs, installs, implements and manages, the services used by the computing resources in the network including but not limited to DNS (Domain Name Services), DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), WINS (Windows Internet Name Service) and Print Services. Provides advanced level of technical and problem determination support in the use of hardware and software products; troubleshoots and diagnoses complex problems in Local Area Networks Wide Area Network, TCP/IP communications, personal computers and network server technologies. Installs, configures, and manages the software securing the mobile device environment, keeping software up to date. Travels to attend meetings, training, seminars and conferences.

Job Responsibilities

25% 1.Serves as a senior network server administrator; performs advanced technical server and workstation administration and analysis functions including design, installation. configuration, patch management, operating system updates and server backups. Creates and manages a test environment to troubleshoot and replicate problems with the production infrastructure. Tests procedures and processes that will have an impact on the entire agency, such as product patches or computer policy changes.

25% 2. Designs, installs and Implements complex server engineering relating to the Microsoft Active Directory and the server infrastructure. Designs, implements and manages the backup and disaster recovery procedures. Manages the current group policy system to automate the drive mappings and startup applications when a user logs onto the network. Performs audit functions routinely to eliminate users and computer objects that may no longer be active within the domain. Identifies, designs, and implements virtualization strategies to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of server and workstation infrastructure. Designs and manages the backup and disaster recovery operations of the domain naming system (DNS) infrastructure.

10% 3. Designs, installs, implements and manages the Microsoft SCCM product that is used for software distribution, inventory collection and monitoring of key system resources. Designs, installs, implements and manages the SCOM (System Center Operations Manager) product that is used for monitoring and reporting for all Microsoft based servers.

10% 4. Designs, installs, configures and supports the Storage Area Network (SAN). Participates in all disaster recovery planning and testing covering all aspects of the network environment.

Designs, installs, implements and manages the Microsoft services used by the computing resources In the network including but not limited to DNS, DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), WINS (Windows Internet Name Service) and Print Services. Works with Security and Network technical specialists in assessing the impact that routine and enhanced changes with these services will have on the network.
5% 6. Installs, configures, and manages the software securing the mobile device environment, keeping software up to date. Makes recommendations on security enforcement for mobile devices and optimal software implementation. Designs, installs, configures and supports the SAN (storage) network. Participates in Disaster Recovery planning and testing.
5% 7. Provides advanced level of technical and problem determination support to the agency in the use of hardware and software products; troubleshoots and diagnoses complex problems in Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks. TCP/IP communications, personal computers and network server technologies. Provides advanced technical direction, guidance and training for other technical support staff.
5% 8. Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field; maintains continual education by traveling to attend meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on information technology products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.

5% 9. Other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields, supplemented by three (3) years of professional experience in a related information technology field.
  • Extensive knowledge of information technology concepts and principles, the theories and functions of computer systems, and the principles and techniques of information technology documentation. 

 

Specialized Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the network and system processes; Microsoft Windows Server. Linux Server, Mobile Iron. Microsoft Active Directory, and Microsoft Server Infrastructure on the Domain, Domain Naming System, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, System Center Configuration Manager, Microsoft SOL Server, Storage Area Network, and Virtual Server technologies such as VMWare.
  • Professional experience diagnosing and resolving end-user computers and server problems.
  • Troubleshooting various software, hardware and network issues. Requires extensive knowledge of disaster recovery planning and testing.
