Job Responsibilities

Under administrative direction, performs complex professional and advisor functions in Midrange Unix including complex installations, systems generation, configurations, testing and implementation of software, hardware, and operating systems. Conducts and coordinates in-depth studies involving substantial technical research and systems analysis; develops complex written IT analysis and recommendation documents. Performs problem diagnostics of complex operating systems and problems, evaluates and resolves problems and serves on-call for emergency situations. Serves as project coordinator for full-range major/complex projects, very large hardware/software deployments and installations across multiple agencies and locations.

  • Performs complex professional and advisory functions in Midrange Unix including complex installations, systems generation, configurations, testing and implementation of software, hardware, and operating systems.
  • Conducts and coordinates in-depth studies involving substantial technical research and systems analysis; develops complex written IT analysis and recommendation documents; develops written implementations plans. Provides complex technical assistance to clients and technicians pertaining to software and operating systems. Conducts reviews of complex components and processes making recommendations for modifications  to provide configurations, availability, tables and flexibility, programs. and usability Configures for and clients; maintains reviews, security creates and requirements modifies on current servers; updates existing processes for installs and develops processes on configuration for the software that are installed and implemented. Provides monitoring and reporting of software and servers. Lifts up to 30 pounds in performance of duties.
  • Performs problem diagnostics of complex operating systems and problems, evaluates and resolves problems and serves on-call for emergency situations, monitors connectivity, and utilizes software to notify of alerts.  Resolves complex hardware and software problems; performs in the diagnosis and resolution of system software problems; confers with vendors to resolve software and hardware problems.
  • Serves as project coordinator for full-range major/complex projects, very large hardware/software deployments and installations across multiple agencies and locations. Determines and coordinates project components such as project scheduling and assignments; assigns and reviews the work of project analyst staff; provides expertise, guidance and direction to staff; reviews result and incorporates individual components of project into the final product. 
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field; maintain continual education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on information technology products, vendors, techniques and procedures. 
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four years of college with course work in computer science and/or a directly related field; supplemented by three years of professional experience in computer science or a directly related IT field. Requires extensive knowledge of the methods, procedures and techniques of conducting feasibility studies for system conversions and enhancements. Requires ability to coordinate the activities of work associates to achieve desired results. Requires ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgment in defining, evaluating, and solving difficult administrative, organizational, technical, or operational problems where solutions may be of a precedent-establishing or research nature. Requires developed oral and written communications skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision. Requires ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others. Requires ability to that are necessary for effective performance. Requires ability to effectively participate in and profit from continuing education, both in a formal and in-service training setting. Prefer knowledge and experience working with Entrust, IBM Tivoli, IBM Websphere and Oracle software products as well as IBM and Oracle relational databases; and client/server software. Requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Requires the ability to serve on-call. 
Specialized Skills: Requires extensive knowledge and a minimum of three years professional work experience administering large-scale IBM and SUN UNIX server farms executing AIX and Sun Solaris operating systems, implementation of virtualization technology of IBM and SUN UNIX hardware, creation of HA file systems, use of UNIX utility software and scripting languages to monitor and alert conditions of UNIX system resources, implementation of secure access methods, TCP/IP, networking, problem resolution, third party software installation, and network-attached, high availability storage device technology. Requires extensive knowledge and previous professional work experience of infrastructure support of the enterprise-level operations of large-scale, n-tier, web-based systems utilizing reverse proxies, web servers, identity management software, access control software and JAVA application servers. Requires extensive knowledge of network communication concepts and principles, including knowledge of server/client network configurations, routers, routing protocols, switches, firewalls, VPN, and Internet. 


Requires the ability to successfully complete a nationwide background check, which includes fingerprints and photograph, as defined by the Internal Revenue Service Pub 1075.
