Position Overview

The Illinois Department on Aging is seeking to hire a qualified professional on our Internal Audit team. The ideal candidate is experienced in conducting internal audits in a government setting and brings with them a desire to serve and make an organization better. Essential Functions

  • In accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, conducts internal audits of simple and routine programs, functions, and activities, as assigned. 
  • Conducts preliminary review of agency programs, operations, information systems, and records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with agency standards and procedures prior to audit fieldwork as set forth by the Internal Audit Policy and Procedures Manual and other specific audit circumstances.
  • Researches, analyzes, and compiles information gathered during an audit. 
  • Communicates with external review entities to maintain the agency’s relationships; acknowledges initial contacts. 
  • Represents the Office of Internal Audits in meetings.
  • Participate in agency training seminars and continuing professional education.
  • Performs other duties as required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree, with coursework in auditing, business management, public administration, economics, computer science, accounting, or other related subjects.
  • Requires completion of an agency’s Internal Auditor Trainee program; or requires two years of professional auditing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least two years of governmental internal audit experience.
  • Prefers at least two years of experience preparing reports in written and verbal form for senior level staff.
  • Prefers at least one year of experience performing data analysis in Excel or comparable software.
  • Prefers at least one year of experience utilizing electronic work papers.

Employment Condition

  • Requires ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Requires periodic travel within the state.
