We are looking for a professional internal auditor to serve as an Internal Auditor I in the Bureau of Internal Audit.  This position will be able to work independently on audit engagements but will be able to go to senior level staff for help on more challenging aspects of the audit process. We invite qualified applicants to apply for the position of Internal Auditor I and help the Bureau of Internal Audit continue to serve the State of Illinois.



  • Serves as rotating auditor as deemed appropriate by management to best meet the needs of other existing audit requests.
  • Performs preliminary review prior to audit fieldwork.
  • Prepares electronic work papers and audit reports for supervisory review summarizing the results of the audit work, detailing audit findings and making appropriate recommendations.
  • Represents Internal Audit in meetings.
  • Meets Continuing Professional Education requirements through formal and in-house training.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.


  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business management or other related subjects.
  • Requires completion of the internal auditor training as an Internal Auditor Trainee OR requires two years of professional internal or external auditing experience.


  • Prefers working knowledge of auditing theory.


  • This position requires the applicant to pass a background check.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel statewide.
