Position Summary
The Department of Central Management Services (CMS) is seeking to hire a beginning professional to serve as an Internal Auditor Trainee in the Bureau of Internal Audit. This position will begin to complete audits with help and coaching from higher level auditing staff. During the trainee period, the auditor will continue to become more independent and should be able to perform an audit independently by the end of the trainee period. Position Essential Functions
- Under direct supervision, for a period of up to 12 months, participates in an agency sponsored internal audit training program. Receives work assignments designed to develop knowledge, understanding, and practical auditing techniques and procedures for the review, analysis, evaluation of, and effectiveness of the audited agencies internal operations and controls.
- Receives formal and on-the-job training on how to conduct preliminary reviews prior to audit fieldwork and either simple or sections of complex internal audits of agencies programs to determine compliance with audit programs.
- Receives on-the-job training to learn how to prepare digital work papers to support findings and recommendations and to facilitate easy reference.
- Attends Internal Audit meetings.
- Meets Continuing Professional Education requirements through formal and in-house training.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree with coursework in accounting, auditing, business management, public administration, economics, computer science, or other related subjects.
- Qualifying state employees, in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Adobe PDF.
- Prefers professional experience working with technical internal or external audits.
- Prefers professional experience preparing for, attending, and conducting entrance conferences to outline audits with agency personnel, attending exit conferences, and participating in the discussion of audit findings prior to the issuance of the final report.
- Prefers professional experience understanding and following detailed oral and written instructions.
- Prefers twelve (12) semester hours in accounting coursework.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to use agency technology/equipment (i.e., mobile phone, laptop, etc.) properly in accordance with information security awareness policies and confidentiality guidelines.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
