Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking motivated individuals to fulfill the role of Human Resources Associate in our central office. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a Human Resources office, be able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume office, maintain confidentiality, and be flexible to the needs of the hiring unit. Essential Functions
- Under general direction, performs complex, confidential, specialized paraprofessional duties related to the Public Safety Shared Services Center (PSSSC) Hiring Units (both Contractual Rights Hiring Unit and the Interview & Selection Hiring Unit).
- Verifies information of candidates utilizing the human resources database (i.e. title, work location, salary, seniority date, bargaining unit transfer eligibility, and other information as required)
- Composes and keyboards confidential responses from various entities regarding hiring and personnel documents, forms, correspondence, memorandum, and spreadsheets, including documents related to sensitive personnel policies and procedures.
- Maintains and reviews files, both physical and electronic to ensure documents are in correct order.
- Serves as backup receptionist for the Administration Building.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
- Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 30 wpm.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in a human resources office.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of paraprofessional work experience in a confidential setting.
Conditions of Employment
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
