Position Marketing Statement

The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is accepting applications to fill the position of Executive I.  The candidate for this position will serve as the Licensing Coordinator of licensing programs which include Sprinkler Contractor Licensing, Pyrotechnic Distributor & Operating Licensing, Consumer Fireworks Registration, and Fire Equipment Distributor & Employee Licensing.  The agency seeks a candidate with a positive attitude who has attained past experience serving in a liaison capacity and enjoys interaction with members of the public and fire service.  The ideal candidate possesses the ability to adapt to a changing work environment and is experienced in the balancing of multiple priorities, immediate and long-term.  Excellent critical thinking and swift decision-making skills are of great importance in this position.  As the Executive I – Licensing Coordinator and employee of the State of Illinois, the selected candidate will have access to state healthcare, benefits and a pension plan.  We invite all qualified applicants to apply to join the OSFM team.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as statewide licensing coordinator, providing support to the statewide licensing administrator and spokesperson for programs, including but not limited to, Sprinkler Contractor Licensing, Pyrotechnic Distributor & Operating Licensing, Consumer Fireworks Registration, Sprayed Fire-Resistant Material Applicator Registration, and Fire Equipment Distributor & Employee Licensing. 
  • Provides support and analysis in the reviews of final applications for licensure.
  • Attends staff meetings, conferences, seminars, and training sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in business or public administration.
  • Requires one (1) year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.

 

Specialized Skills

 

  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year of professional experience working in a licensing or regulatory program.
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year of experience utilizing a licensing or regulatory software system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience working in a licensing or regulatory program.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience utilizing a licensing or regulatory software program.
  • Prefers four (4) or more years of experience independently analyzing and researching information and making recommendations based on findings.
  • Prefers three (3) or more years of professional experience functioning as a customer service liaison with external stakeholders.
  • Prefers three (3) years of experience utilizing MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.

  • Requires the ability to pass a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires the ability to pass drug screening.
  • Requires the ability to travel with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is considered sedentary work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(a)). Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and requires occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing.
