Essential Functions

  • Under direction, serves as the Lead Command Center Operator for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), directing and coordinating a complex multi-system mainframe environment, ensuring seamless integration and optimal operation across multiple mainframes.
  • Serves as a coordinator to lower-level staff involved in monitoring various systems and contacting on-call staff to resolve any unresolved issues, such as server failures and the maintenance of secure key logs and keys.  
  • Serves as designated lead worker.
  • Monitors the mainframe and server environment to ensure appropriate availability and resource status and places service calls for hardware problems and records all aspects of the call on the daily shift report
  • Monitors various sub-systems utilizing a multi-processor configuration of a large mainframe and enters commands to initiate job runs.
  • Responds to questions from the public and assists public users with registration, password changes, and general logons to various public websites for state agencies.  
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field by continuing education through meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures. 
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1.    Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
2.    Requires four (4) years of previous related experience such as is typically gained at the Data Processing Specialist level.
OR
1.    Requires two (2) years of college including coursework.
2.    Requires three (3) years of related experience.  

 

Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of professional experience managing and coordinating a complex multi-system mainframe environment, ensuring seamless integration, optimal performance, and system reliability across multiple mainframes.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience managing and configuring mainframe computer components, including interfacing, and manipulating mainframe computer systems components.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience preparing and submitting detailed reports on job and system performance, documenting successes, failures, and operational issues to ensure accurate tracking and resolution. 
  • Three (3) years of professional experience overseeing enterprise computing systems, monitoring, and troubleshooting system performance issues, and utilizing software tools and commands to monitor, maintain, and optimize operating platforms, subsystems, applications, and peripheral hardware within multi-processor configurations. 
  • Three (3) years of professional experience executing system startups, shutdowns, dumps, coupling facility structure moves, online maintenance, system updates, and performance monitoring, while preparing detailed reports on system performance and job execution outcomes
  • Ability to lead, train, and guide lower-level staff by assigning tasks, reviewing performance, providing technical support, and ensuring procedural compliance.
  • Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision.
