Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician II for the Elizabeth Packard Mental Health Center located in Springfield, Illinois to perform direct therapeutic care of patients with mental illness on an assigned shift of Monroe Hall. Conducts activities, utilizes therapeutic interventions, and provides basic care of patients consistent with their individual treatment plan. Monitors patient activities and behaviors to verify a safe, secure environment. Serves as member of a treatment team. Completes records and documentation related to the safety and observation of patients. Travels in performance of job duties.
Essential Functions
- Performs direct therapeutic care of patients with mental illness on an assigned shift of Monroe Hall.
- As a member of the treatment team, participates in treatment planning activities and provides input regarding patient activities, behaviors, safety, and status/response to treatment in order to assist the team in meeting the patient’s treatment needs.
- Completes records and documentation related to the safety and observation of patients.
- Verifies safety of the environment and the patient by continuous monitoring of patient activity, performing patient counts, head checks and other routine/special checks.
- Completes mandatory training requirement to maintain age and illness specific and departmental competencies, including civil and adult issues.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires successful completion of an approved training program and six (6) months experience in, or applicable to the care, treatment, or habilitation of individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities.

Requires the ability to physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to the patient or others.

Requires the ability to lift, turn and reposition patients.

Requires the ability to pull, lift and carry moderate loads, up to and including 100 pounds with assistance.

Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.

Requires successful completion of CPI (Crisis Prevention and Intervention) training.

Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.

Requires the ability to utilize office equipment including personal computers.

Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
