Position Overview
Join a world class institution!! The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) is hiring a Museum Theater Systems Technician. This position is responsible for ensuring the museum shows run appropriately and other audiovisual components of the ALPLM run correctly. The ideal candidate has a high level of skill in video production, is knowledgeable of high-end, performance quality lighting, audio, electronics, and video production, and enjoys staying abreast of industry trends. Essential Functions
- Serves as Museum Theater Technician.
- Assembles, prepares, operates and maintains state of the art lighting, audio, electronics and video equipment.
- Provides audio/visual support to rental clients, and for agency programs and internal events.
- Evaluates and makes recommendations for purchase of new equipment, including theatrical rigging, mechanical special effects equipment, lighting, audio, video projection and recording.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in technical theater staging, live event production or museum automation systems, OR requires four (4) years of work experience in technical theater staging, live event production or museum automation systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers two (2) years of experience with video servers and video playback machines, cabling concepts related to video signals, video switchers and how they may relate to permanent theater installations and their use in live theater, live production and concert situations.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience with common theater lighting instrument mounting and cabling with a clear understanding of common safety practices in regard to theater/concert/live production lighting systems.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience identifying anomalies in show systems and make short- and long-term repairs under the direction and guidance of the show systems manager.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience operating professional video recording cameras, video equipment such as switchers, scalers, and recorders.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience with sound systems including microphone types, use and placement, sound systems installations, wireless microphone systems, radio frequency and how they interact with other wireless systems, audio processing equipment such as, but not limited to, equalizers, compressors, limiters and reverberators.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience in the operation of lighting consoles, Digital Multiplexing (DMX) addressing and signal path as well as dimming systems.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience and extensive knowledge of automated show systems as related to museums exhibits and theaters and of computer-based rigging, lighting, audio and show controls.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience working with tools related to set and scenic construction, (e.g., power saws, drills, air operated wrenches, grinders and nailers) and working knowledge of simple electronics including safety guidelines and how they relate to theaters, live productions.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience in operating setting up manual and automated theater/concert/live production rigging systems and common safety practices when working on or installing rigging for sound, lighting, scenic or projection systems.
- Prefers two (2) years of experience communicating effectively in oral and written form and working effectively with the public.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
- This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Requires ability to carry and use a state-issued cell phone.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.

Training, First 6 Weeks: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm
Once training complete, PERMANENT ROTATING SCHEDULE:
Week A: Sunday, 7:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Thursday, 7:00am-3:30pm
Week B: Sunday, 7:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Thursday, 2:00pm-10:30pm
