Position Overview

Under direction, supervises clerical staff in the Professional Services Unit of the Section of Licensing and Testing involved in the review and evaluation of a variety of professional licensing applications of a non‑routine and highly complex nature.  Responds to telephone inquiries, mail or walk‑ins of a non‑routine and complex nature.  Conducts random reviews of screened applications for appropriate documents; evaluates for completeness by applying knowledge of the various licensing laws, rules, policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as working supervisor of subordinate clerical staff.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries, mail (both physical and electronic), or walk ins of a non routine and complex nature such as those relating to established policies, procedures, and provisions of the various licensing laws and rules relative to the application process.  
  • Conducts random reviews of screened applications (both physical and electronic) for appropriate documents.
  • Researches and compiles statistical data and information for special projects and reports.  Receives and extrapolates data from case management statistical reports as requested by supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years study at a secretarial/business college and two years office experience; or, completion of high school and four years Office Assistant experience; or, four years independent business experience.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least three years of experience supervising a staff of four or more.
  • Prefers at least three years of experience in the assessment of an applicant’s qualifications or credentials based on established standards.
  • Prefers at least six years of experience working in a professional office environment.
  • Prefers at least three years of experience providing customer service in person, over the phone, and over email/electronic communication.
