ICC Overview
The ICC is made up of 2 main segments. The Bureau of Public Utilities and The Bureau of Transportation.
Public Utility Services
Through its Bureau of Public Utilities, the Commission oversees the provision of adequate, reliable, efficient and safe utility services at the least possible cost to Illinois citizens served by electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water and sewer public utility companies.
Transportation Services
Through its Bureau of Transportation, the Commission oversees public safety and consumer protection programs with regard to intrastate commercial motor carriers of general freight, household goods movers, relocation towers, safety towers, personal property warehouses and repossession agencies. The Commission’s Rail Safety Program also inspects and regulates the general safety of railroad tracks, facilities and equipment in the state.
Job Responsibilities
Under general supervision, performs a variety of responsible duties with regard to the operation of the ICC's Springfield Mail Room such as: mail distribution and pickup, messenger duties, and operates various office equipment located In the Mail Room/Print Shop:; maintains inventory of office supplies for the Springfield office supply room.
1. Travels to perform messenger service outside of the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC). Make daily deliveries of deposits to bank and Treasurer's Office, deliver and pick up payroll checks and other documents from Comptroller's Office, deliver and pick up legislative documents from offices of members of the General Assembly, deliver and pick up budget documents from the Governor's Office of Management and Budget. Run other outside messenger services as directed.
2. Review, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing ICC Springfield Office mail. Deliver various types of mail, packages, and boxes to ICC employees and other state agencies. Prepare all outgoing mail as directed. Prepare and ship boxes of official files for ICC hearings and employees to the ICC Chicago and Des Plaines offices and other locations as directed. Operates the postage machine to affix correct postage, and the inserter machine to enclose necessary pages in the correct order In envelopes.
3. Assist with operating various Print Shop office equipment, e.g., scanning, printing, copying, folding, assembling, binding, and/or stuffing documents in envelopes as directed.
4. Answer and screen incoming telephone calls to the ICC Springfield Mail Room. Greet and direct staff and visitors; answer general information questions and take messages. Sign for packages delivered by outside delivery services and distribute packages as directed. Assist with walk-in requests and mailings including packing boxes for shipments, and assist with overnight shipping requests via Federal Express, UPS, etc. Monitor and update mail tracking spreadsheet for deliveries awaited by agency
5. Maintain inventory of office supplies in the ICC Springfield Supply Room on ICC database applications; distribute office supplies as directed, and inform Administrative Services Division Purchasing Staff of office supplies that need to be ordered for timely replenishment of ICC Springfield Supply Room inventory.
6. Lift and move office furniture and equipment weighing up to 60lbs when requested by staff. Move boxes of documents as requested. Deliver cases of paper to various ICC Springfield Office floors. Use dollies and carts as appropriate to assist in these functions.
7. Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school diploma. Requires one year of related office experience. Requires the ability to communicate clearly in English both orally and in writing; requires working knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation; requires working knowledge of basic math and alphanumeric sequence. Prefers basic knowledge of the personal computer and its related software programs and applications (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel); and basic keyboarding skills and data input. Requires working knowledge of office practices, procedures, and programs. Requires the ability to operate manual and automated office equipment. Requires ability to perform tasks which include lifting items weighing up to 60lbs. Requires possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license.
