Position Overview
Under direction, performs a variety of complex specialized clerical information and assistance duties requiring the application of agency policies and procedures and exercising independent judgment and action. Receives and handles telephone inquiries from physicians, private laboratories and other medical personnel concerning availability of specimen analysis. Maintains filing system assuring prompt retrieval for reference purposes. Maintains daily attendance and employee benefits time. Types a variety of correspondence and other information. Operates personal computer, typewriter and copy machine.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides clerical support for the Data Management Section and other professional administrative staff of the Division of Laboratories Springfield Lab.
- Mails and/or faxes laboratory analysis results to local health departments and/or submitting agencies and vendors.
- Receives and handles incoming telephone inquiries from physicians, private laboratories, local health departments and other medical personnel concerning availability of specimen analysis and specimen results.
- Maintains filing system assuring prompt retrieval of information for reference purposes.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of office experience.
- Requires extensive knowledge of office practices, operation of commonly used manual and automated office equipment; also elementary knowledge of agency programs.
- Requires ability to type accurately at 45 words per minute.
- Ability to utilize various PC applications to access, enters data, analyze and produce reports.
