Job Responsibilities

Under direction, performs a variety of complex clerical duties that require judgment, knowledge, and interpretation of Board policies and procedures in processing property tax appeal documents; responds to requests from taxpayers, lawyers, state and local officials, and intervenors for forms or other Board publications.

  • Retrieves files after initial docketing; applying judgment and knowledge of Board policies and procedures, determines appropriate status such as whether the Appellant’s appeal filing is considered incomplete, warrants an extension of time for filing materials (either 1st extension granted or extension after previous year’s decision), is considered ready for other party notification, or requires miscellaneous letter generation; sorts files accordingly. 
  • Applying less than a full level of typing skill, participates in updating the system to perform initial docketing or generate letters by entering such identifying information as the name, address and phone number of parties to the appeal or alpha-numeric docket numbers.
  • After letters are generated, reviews mailings to assure the necessary forms or filings are enclosed; where appellant is ready or appellant’s extension has been denied and the case is not being dismissed, assures appellant and county receive copies of the other party’s submissions, that the county receives blank certificate forms and that the owner receives request to intervene forms if the appellant is not the owner; assures file jacket is appropriately updated.  
  • Provides customer service by responding to requests from taxpayers, lawyers, state and local officials and intervenors for forms or other information; makes copies of documents as necessary and issues to requesting party; refers questions or requests to other parties as necessary and appropriate.  Obtains and mails the Synopsis of Representative Cases Decided by the Board upon request from an interested party. 
  • Maintains files for those cases where miscellaneous letters have been generated and additional follow-up response is required by one of the parties; files records and periodically conducts reviews  of “30 day drawer” to determine whether appeal may move forward for further processing.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school
  • Requires two years of office experience. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures and programs.
  • Requires working knowledge of the Board’s appeal procedure to maintain contacts with appellants, lawyers, and state and local official

  • Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license.
