Position Overview

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board is seeking to hire a motivated, self-starting Office Associate for the Operation Unit. The Office Associate will set up dockets for individual youth in custody, assigns attorneys and hearing officers to cases, sends notifications to all respected parties, serves as a liaison from the Prisoner Review Board to the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Department of Corrections.  The position will provide support to board members and staff, compile statistics and serve as a rotational receptionist. The ideal candidate will be able to work well with the public, staff and Senior Management. We invite those interested in public safety to apply. 

Essential Functions

  • Serves as a liaison between the Prisoner Review Board, Department of Juvenile Justice and Department of Corrections.
  • Sets up dockets for youth offenders for violation and parole eligibility. 
  • Reviews and responds, as needed, to youth and offender correspondence. 
  • Prepares documents for filing in central filing system or Docuware electronic filing system. 
  • Serves as a receptionist.
  • Travels to Illinois Department of Corrections facilities, Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice facilities and county jails to provide clerical assistance in hearings.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires two (2) years office experience.
  • Requires ability to keyboard 45 words per minute.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

  • Prefers ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.

  • Prefers ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance.

  • Prefers elementary knowledge of agency programs, rules and regulations.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to successfully pass Department of Corrections, Illinois State Police and county jail background checks as necessary to enter required correctional facilities throughout Illinois.
  • Requires the ability to travel statewide to Illinois Department of Corrections, Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice facilities and county jail facilities which could include overnight stays.
  • Requires possession of a current valid appropriate driver’s license.

About the Agency

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board's mission is to function under statutory authority as a quasi-judicial body with a primary focus on public safety. It further acts as a checks and balances on other state and local institutions. The Board imposes release conditions for incarcerated individuals who are exiting penal facilities, revokes and restores good conduct credits from inmates and conducts hearings to determine whether parolees have violated conditions of parole. The Board also notifies victims and their families when an inmate is about to be released from custody.
