Then consider working for the Illinois Department of Revenue. We are hiring an Office Associate, Option 2 (TY) for our Property Tax Division, Exemptions Section in Springfield, IL. In this position you will process applications from county officials and work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues with property tax exemption applications. Your attention to detail, ability to organize and to multi-task will be helpful in the daily work you will perform in this role.  If you have the knowledge, skill, mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of office experience, along with keyboarding skill of 45 words per minute, then we want you! Essential Functions

  • Under direction, receives, reviews, and examines incoming tax exemption applications from taxpayers for completeness and accuracy.
  • Confers with taxpayers, their representatives and tax practitioners, by telephone and/or written correspondence, relative to status of tax exemption applications.
  • Maintains tax exemption files.
  • Prepares and mails tax exemption denials by certified mail.
  • Keyboards complex charts, statistical reports, documents, forms, memoranda, and letters that include legal terminology where an understanding of specialized terms is required to ensure clarity and accuracy.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires two years of office experience.
  • Requires skill in keyboarding accurately at 45 Words Per Minute (WPM).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience composing business communications, proof reading for proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Two (2) years of experience extracting data from forms and keyboarding into a database.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with office practices, procedures, and programs.
  • One (1) year of experience proof reading data input for accuracy.
  • One (1) year of experience tracking work production and daily tasks completed.
  • One (1) year of experience following oral and written instructions.
  • One (1) year of experience operating commonly used manual and automated office equipment and performing routine maintenance.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
  • Requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods, stand, walk, bend, and reach above shoulder level.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc.
