Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as legal secretary by performing duties in support of the Division of Legal Services and a wide range of Illinois Department of Public Health programs. Uses a personal computer system, produces a large volume of complex documents containing legal terminology. Utilizes word-processing software to prepare materials. Proofreads all documents for accuracy of contents. Maintains computer system by creating and updating glossaries. Prepares documents for electronic storage and archiving. Handles all incoming and outgoing mail for the Division of Legal Services. Answers Division of Legal Services general telephone line, transfers calls and takes messages for staff.

Essential Functions
- Serves as legal secretary by performing duties in support of the Division of Legal Services and a wide range of Illinois Department of Public Health Programs.
- Maintains computer system by creating and updating glossaries.
- Handles all incoming and outgoing mail for the Division of Legal Services.
- Performs general legal support services involving analysis, writing and organizational support and the general organization of litigation and transactional files for the Division of Legal Services and its attorneys.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two (2) years of secretarial/business college or completion of high school and two (2) years of related office experience or two (2) years of independent business experience.
- Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 30 words per minute.
