Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire an Office Coordinator for the Office of Law Enforcement. This position will provide specialized office support functions, have the ability to balance accounts, utilize organizational skills, answer calls to explain or clarify rules and regulations, programs, and procedures, and will use the computer to prepare a variety of documents, databases and spreadsheets.  The Office of Law Enforcement supports the Department's programs designed to protect Illinois' natural and recreational resources through enforcement of those portions of the Illinois Compiled Statutes enacted for that purpose. Conservation Police Officers are vested with full state-wide police authority and are trained to the highest standards for law enforcement professionals in Illinois.  We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.

Essential Functions

  • Under general direction, serves as an administrative secretary and performs a variety of secretarial and clerical functions for the Training Lieutenant and the Command Staff.
  • Performs a variety of keyboarding assignments of difficult, complex, and confidential nature for Training Lieutenant and other Command Staff.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual training report and the mailing of Division material.
  • Serves as back-up receptionist for the office.
  • Sort and distributes incoming mail, handles telephone calls and makes arrangements for OLE Administrators and office staff.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college, or completion of high school and two years of related office experience, or two years of independent business experience.
  • Requires skill in keyboarding 30 WPM accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures, and programs.
  • One (1) year of extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • One (1) year of working knowledge of the logic of computer programs.
  • One (1) year of experience following oral or written instructions.
  • One (1) year of experience operating commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance.

In addition to these enforcement responsibilities, Conservation Police Officers serve as an important link between the Department and its various constituencies (civic groups, sportsmen’s groups, sport shows, etc.). These officers are called upon to assist outside agencies in emergency situations or rescue operations. They participate in the instruction of conservation related statutes to outside agencies, law enforcement organizations, or educational institutions upon request.
