Job Overview

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Bureau of Land (BOL), Materials Management and Compliance Section (MMCS) is seeking to hire an Office Specialist, Option 2. The MMCS Unit supports programs and provides information that help Illinois residents maximize the amount of material diverted from landfills. The ideal candidate for this position will be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated and have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with environmental professionals, the general public and MMCS staff and management.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as data coordinator performing complex, specialized para-professional/technical functions for the Illinois
    EPA (IEPA), Bureau of Land (BOL), Materials Management and Compliance Section (MMCS), including the
    electronic reporting of data, handling of the data received, and retrieval of the data:
  • Develops, responds to, and maintains MMCS’s external communications along with internal procedures,
    templates and standard documents.
  • Assists Manager(s) with MMCS processes:
  • Coordinates with Division of Records, Permit Section, Field Office Section, Division of Legal Counsel Fiscal:
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated
    above.

Minimum Qualifications

  •  Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college and one year of

office experience, or completion of high school and three years of office experience, or three years of independent business
experience.
Qualifying state employees, in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency
tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

  •  Requires ability to type accurately, at 30 Words per minute.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  •  Prefers the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel., and mapping location

software for determining longitude and latitude of locations.

  • Prefers the ability to follow oral or written instructions.
  •  Prefers extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures, and programs.
  •  Prefers extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Prefers working knowledge of the logic of computer programs.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of basic mathematics.
  •  Prefers the ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance.
