This position is responsible for serving as lead worker for temporary staff, reviewing tax return batches for accuracy, and preparing reports and procedures to support document processing. Essential Functions
- Under general direction, performs a variety of paraprofessional duties in the flow and processing of documents for the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) Document Control & Deposit (DC&D) Division.
- Develops and utilizes complex Microsoft Office databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications for reporting purposes.
- Serves as designated lead worker.
- Serves as lead worker for temporary clerical staff.
- Manages and reviews the verification of all tax returns without remittance batches that are entered into the computer systems.
- Oversees, organizes, participates in, and helps to facilitate the movement of State and Federal Taxpayer Information Transfer Sheet (TF-1) paperwork.
- Serves as a member of the Division test team during year-end testing.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college and one year of office experience, -OR- completion of high school and three years of office experience, -OR- three years of independent business experience.
Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience working with State and Federal Tax forms.
- Two (2) years of experience working with office procedures and programs in a professional environment.
- Two (2) years of experience gathering and compiling data for the purpose of generating complex reports.
- Two (2) years of experience as a lead worker (i.e., assigning work, providing detail on performance of assigned staff to supervisor).
- Intermediate proficiency working with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
- Intermediate proficiency working with Microsoft Word or similar word processing software.
- Intermediate proficiency working with Microsoft Outlook or similar electronic mail software.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
- Requires the ability to push and pull carts to deliver tubs of work to assigned areas.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc.
