Position Overview
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Division of Laboratories, Springfield Combined Laboratory is seeking a candidate to serves as an Office Coordinator. The ideal candidate for this position will be organized, detailed, and possess the ability to adapt to change in a collaborative, fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will also need to be able to communicate effectively verbally, electronically and in writing with both internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions
- Maintains and monitors complex databases and spreadsheets for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Division of Laboratories (DOL).
- Performs a variety of paraprofessional technical and complex office support functions for the Division of Laboratories.
- Performs a variety of support duties for the Division of Laboratories.
- Assists with the Community Water Supply Testing Program.
- Assists in utilizing the laboratory’s LIMS database.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college.
Or completion of high school and two years of related office experience.
Or two years of independent business experience.
- Requires the ability to accurately keyboard 30 words per minute.
Preferred Qualifications (In order of Significance)
- Prefers extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures, and programs.
- Prefers extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Prefers extensive knowledge of basic mathematics.
- Prefers working knowledge of the logic of computer programs.
- Prefers ability to follow oral or written instructions.
- Prefers ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment.
- Prefers the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel software.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires a valid and current appropriate drivers’ license.
- Requires the ability to travel in performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conference, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics to the job duties.
- Requires ability to pass a name-based background check.
