The Illinois Office of the Comptroller is seeking applicants for the position of Office Specialist - Print Shop - Graphic Design.
The Comptroller is the chief fiscal control officer for the Illinois government, charged by the Constitution with maintaining the state’s central fiscal accounts and ordering payments into and out of the appropriate funds. The office processes more than 16 million transactions annually and serves as a “fiscal watchdog” to ensure that all state payments meet the requirements of the law. The Comptroller’s office provides meaningful and timely fiscal information to help state policymakers adopt effective policies. The office continually seeks new ways to improve how it serves the public. The Comptroller has updated and streamlined the Comptroller’s website and has led the process of updating the state’s payroll and accounting systems. Comptroller Mendoza is committed to running the Office of Comptroller as a financial watchdog for the interest of Illinois citizens and to installing the most modern and transparent systems to make the state’s financial information available to all.
Major Function
Under general direction of the Public Service Administrator-Print Shop Unit, the Office Specialist/Graphic Design serves a technical, creative function. The incumbent creates compelling visual materials including: office publications, forms, other office-wide printing materials, website and social media content updates, and graphics for e-mail messaging to support the operations throughout the Office. The Office Specialist/Graphic Design collaborates and coordinates with various departments to ensure consistent and impactful messaging.
Job Responsibilities
- Designs and develops print materials from various formats such as Quark Xpress and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro), Microsoft office Suite, and Tableau.
- Designs and produces high-quality visual materials, including brochures, flyers, posters, reports, newsletters, and other print items.
- Develops and executes creative concepts for digital platforms, such a website graphics, social media posts, email campaigns, and digital content.
- Ensures all designs align with the Office's branding guidelines and communicate a cohesive visual identity.
- Manages multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project goals.
- Collaborates with internal departments to develop creative solutions for infographics, presentations, and other visual content to support storytelling and data visualization.
- Uses electronic job ticket to transmit network-printing jobs to the appropriate print servers via office network.
- Obtains proof copies on all print jobs and distributes for print approval to appropriate department personnel.
- Assists in operation of digital printing equipment along with other printshop related tasks when required.
- Maintains and updates print shop filing.
- Maintains printing requisition for all print jobs.
- Assists office personnel in electronic job ticketing as needed.
- Creates backups of network files to appropriate locations.
- Develops and/or assists with office exhibits.
- Assists in creating signs, banners and posters for large format mounting for various users.
- Assists in the setup and take down of office exhibits.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties defined above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college with course work or professional training in Graphic Design, Integrated Media, Visual Communications, or a related field.
- Requires one (1) year of professional graphic design experience in a public or private organization using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro), Microsoft Office Suite, and Tableau.
- Requires basic knowledge of Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and/or JavaScript as applied to web development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers two (2) or more years of experience in graphic design utilizing User Interface and User Experience (UX/UI) design principles.
- Prefers familiarity with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices, Google Analytics, and digital advertising platforms.
- Prefers experience analyzing and reporting on key performance metrics.

Benefits
This position is eligible to be a member of the State of Illinois Group Insurance program which includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage options. Additionally, this position will annually accrue 12 paid sick days, a minimum of 12 paid vacation days, 4 paid personal days, and be afforded 14 paid state holidays, prorated based on start date.
