Position Overview

Seniors are the fastest growing population group both in Illinois and around the country.  The Illinois Department on Aging’s Older Americans Services housed under the Home and Community Based Services Division is responsible for coordinating statewide services in collaboration with thirteen Area Agencies on Aging.  Funding for these services is provided under both State and Federal Grants, and while oversight of these programs is a crucial aspect of this position, the team is on the cutting edge of evaluating innovative, evidence-based initiatives and collaborating with other States, organizations, and likeminded leaders across the Country.  Join the team at Aging as we shape the future of seniors with our partners, engaging a wide range of grantees and generations dedicated to ensure seniors successfully age in place. 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Supervises staff. 

  2. Conceptualizes, designs, develops and implements the State Plan on Aging.

  3. Develops, reviews and evaluates the most complex programmatic sections of the Area Agency on Aging Area Plans, applying review criteria and policy and procedures for congruency with the Older American Act programmatic and fiscal goals.

  4. Applies advanced research models to Older Americans Act services and other Unit Services.

  5. Coordinates joint planning process of staff.

  6. Coordinates joint planning process of staff engaged in the development and updating of the administrative rules relating to Older American Act programs.

  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative work experience managing a comprehensive program in a health and human services environment.
  2. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college in a business administration or human services related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. More than three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative work experience managing a comprehensive program in a health and human services environment.
  2. More than two years of supervisory experience.
  3. Experience interpreting and applying codes of federal regulations.
  4. Grants management experience.
  5. Experience working with services provided under the Older Americans Act.
  6. Master's degree social services, social work, public administration, gerontology, health administration, or related field.
  7. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
