Position Overview
The State Workforce Development Public Service intern with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is responsible for assisting with the day to day workforce development project and grant management activities. This position works under the general direction of DCEO's Office of Employment and Training (OET) Program Managers to assist in the development and implementation of state workforce projects and manage state workforce grants including but not limited to the Job Training and Economic Development Program. The ideal candidate will be provided on-the-job training while supporting the program development, grant management and implementation of workforce, education and economic development programs and initiatives. Job Responsibilities
1. Participates in orientation and training designed to provide program resources and information to provide technical assistance to organizations funded under the Illinois workforce programs for a period of not less than 12 months to a maximum of 24 months.
2. Assists staff and trains to monitor grantees for compliance with, and completion of, duties specified in approved applications.
3. Develops working skills to analyze and evaluate applications workforce, education, or economic development grants.
4. Receives training (train the trainer), and assists in the development, coordination and delivery of training programs, educational workshops and conferences and other forums related to the Illinois workforce system.
5. Participates in grant application and administration workshops and other related meetings with grantees and stakeholder to learn about their training and program needs.
6. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires a bachelor's or higher degree with major coursework in public administration, business administration, political science, or a related field. The degree-regardless of level-must have been obtained no earlier than 18 months prior to submitting an application for the class, unless waived in writing by the Director of Central Management Services.
2. Requires experience with the application of public administration tenets such as might have been obtained in collegiate organizations, volunteer participation, or by employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. The preferred candidate will have the ability to utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, webinar platforms (e.g. WebEx, Zoom), and grant reporting / tracking systems.
2. The preferred candidate will have the ability to summarize and present information.
