Position Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Community Relations, Office of Community Relations, Department of Human Services (DHS), serves as Public Relations Specialist.  Organizes, plans, executes, implements, and evaluates the marketing and public relations/engagement activities of the agency statewide.  Assists with the day-to-day operations of the Office in providing technical assistance in professional photography, media FOIAs (Freedom of Information Act), videography, graphic design and layout utilizing Publisher.  Creates communications and public engagement concepts for the development and execution of promotional events and activities to generate awareness of existing and announce new DHS services and projects.  Travels statewide to participate with DHS officials, the Governor’s Office, legislators, and consumer groups in DHS events and issues of shared concern and involvement in coordination of special projects.  Communicates at a colloquial level in Spanish with individuals who do not read or speak English.

Job Responsibilities

1.   Under the direction of the Director of Community Relations, Office of Community Relations, Department of Human Services (DHS), serves as Public Relations Specialist.

 

2.   Creates communications and public engagement concepts for the development and execution of promotional events and activities to generate awareness of existing and announce new DHS  services and projects, while ensuring the integration and consistency of branding and messaging in all communications, media relations, advertising, marketing, graphic design, and public relations activities utilizing a variety of Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Excel and Advanced PowerPoint.

 

3.   Performs primary controlling impact on the end results and outputs of the program.

 

4.   Translates functions/procedures into Spanish/English in contacts with the general public, advocacy groups, customers, and community organizations.

 

5.   Travels statewide to participate with DHS officials, the Governor’s Office, legislators, and consumer groups in DHS events and issues of shared concern and involvement in coordination of special projects. 

 

6.   Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with course work in Journalism, marketing, and advertising.
  2. Requires three years progressively responsible administrative experience in a private organization, public relations firm, or advertising agency.
  3. Requires ability to speak, read and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level.

 

Specialized Skills:  Of the three years of progressively responsible administrative experience, requires three years of professional experience in advertising, marketing, public relations, media affairs, branding, advertising, and/or social media outlets working with Publisher, Adobe Acrobat Professional, CS5, Print Shop, web hosting, all Microsoft Office Suite programs (such as Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and AP editing style software for a public or private organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires extensive knowledge in advertising, marketing, public relations, media affairs, branding, advertising, and social media outlets.
  • Requires extensive knowledge in publishing, professional photography, and videography.
