Job Description:

 

The Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Division of Finance, Bureau of Collection Services is seeking to hire a highly qualified candidate with medical/case management skills to work in the Technical Recovery Unit. This position will conduct research utilizing the internet and various reports to establish personal injury and/or Workers’ Compensation medical liens/claims to determine monies owed to the Department. This position further serves as a Department liaison for internal and external entities interpreting the Department’s statutory personal injury/Workers’ Compensation authority and related internal policies.

 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, as the candidate will communicate with attorneys, customers, and health insurance carriers. This position will require experience with analyzing medical claims and negotiating case settlements with external entities. The preferred candidate will exhibit excellent follow-up skills to plan, organize, and prioritize assignments to ensure such are completed accurately and timely to maximize recovery efforts.

Job Description

  • Serves as a Personal Injury/Workers’ Compensation Caseworker for the Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Bureau of Collection Services, Technical Recovery Unit
  • Consults with attorneys to determine the status of personal injury/Workers’ Compensation claims and to determine amount of settlement
  • Initiates and monitors the referrals of all case documentation to the Assistant Attorney General for adjudication in personal injury/Workers’ Compensation lien settlements
  • Reviews documentation and corresponds with attorneys, insurance companies, and Department of Human Services (DHS) local offices regarding recoveries of cases
  • Confers with management and recommends the resolution of personal injury/Workers’ Compensation claims
  • Interprets the Department’s statutory personal injury/Workers’ Compensation authority and related internal policies for state representatives, attorneys, insurance companies/ representatives, DHS local office staff, and program participants
  • Reviews, analyzes, and recommends disposition of requests for waiver or release of the Department’s personal injury lien/Workers’ Compensation claim
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration
  • Requires one (1) year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization or completion of an agency approved professional management training program

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience researching and analyzing medical/case records related to personal injury or Workers’ Compensation cases
  • One (1) year of experience negotiating case settlements with insurance carriers and attorneys
  • One (1) year of experience utilizing HFS Medical Systems such as: Medical Management Information Systems (MMIS) mainframe screens, MMIS New Claims Inquiry Database (PAMCINQO), MMIS Claims History Inquiry Database (PAMPCHIO), MMIS NIPS Claims History Inquiry (PAMPHSTO), Integrated Eligibility Systems (IES), or Medical Expenditure Reporting and Analysis (MERA) in the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW)
  • One (1) year of experience in medical case management
  • One (1) year experience utilizing spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets and word processing applications such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs
