Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking a Clerical Trainee to serve as a Records Center Trainee. Under immediate supervision, for a period of not less than 6 months with trainee participation from at least 20 hours per week up to a full-time equivalency work schedule during the trainee period, receive on-the-job training as a participant in an agency training program to gain experience performing a variety tasks relating to operating digital scanner(s) and associated software to image documents, photographs and large format drawings, using appropriate scanner settings detailed in established procedures, and entering index information for digital images within the appropriate tracking system(s).
Essential Functions
- Serves as Records Center Trainee through the Disabled Workers Training Program (DWTP).
- Receives on the job training in the preparation of paper documents and drawings for digital imaging.
- Receives on the job training in the entry of index information for digital images within the appropriate tracking system(s).
- Assists with transporting, retrieving and delivering files and documents.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires no previous experience.
- The Clerical Trainee class has been identified as subject to provisions of the Personnel Code 20 ILCS 415/17b, according to which suitable positions at state agencies may be identified and included in the Disabled Workers Training Program (DWTP) and are thereby reserved for the employment and training of individuals with disabilities. Qualified participants in the program are authorized to work at least 20 hours per week, and the training program duration may be extended up to a maximum of 72 months to allow for the program goals to be achieved and the incumbent to become eligible for promotion to an appropriate full-time position.
- The actual duration of the DWTP training period is dependent upon the desirable requirements of the target title and the percentage of a full-time equivalent work schedule that the incumbent works as a trainee. Individuals who successfully complete a trainee appointment are eligible for promotion to the target title without further examination.

- Ability to operate manual and automated equipment in the Records Center.
- Ability to bend and lift approximately 35 lbs.
- Requires ability to follow oral/and or written instructions.
