Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Reproduction Services Technician III. The successful candidate will, under general supervision of the Print Shop Manager, serves as a specialist in the operation of all complex reproduction equipment. Oversees all shop procedures to provide quality statewide printing and duplicating services within critical time constraints. Performs minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment. Confers with departmental staff on printing assignment specifications.
Essential Functions
- Serves as a specialist in the operation of all complex reproduction equipment.
- Serves as lead worker in the absence of the Print Shop Manager.
- Receives work orders for daily assignments.
- Oversees the maintenance on the direct to plate maker to produce plates for the single head offset press to produce high-volume high-quality envelopes.
- Trains new operators on all Print Shop equipment when necessary.
- Discusses printing needs and priorities with requestor completes necessary job logs submits supply requests to the immediate supervisor recommends equipment purchases.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
- Requires three years of experience in the operation of offset presses and peripheral equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer extensive knowledge of high production printers, operations, and maintenance and repair procedures.
- Prefer extensive knowledge of paper stocks and weights.
- Prefer elementary knowledge of math, skill in the operation of equipment to produce quality materials on a production basis and the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Prefers the ability to recognize and correct complex operations errors and machine malfunctions and the ability to provide leadership, guidance, instruction, and training to lower-level Reproduction Service Technicians.

- Must be able to lift approximately a minimum of 50 lbs. and work in an environment surrounded by chemicals.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds and work in an environment surrounded by chemicals.
